I wanted to make a system backup of my laptop so I have bought one of these:
Even thought I knew it is probably a scam, I wanted to see how they do it and if the device can be actually fixed and used later.
After plugging it in the pc you could see it actually fakes the advertised size, but when you try to use it it will quickly crash after certain data.
After destroying the housing:
I have found a microSD and a chip which meant to fake the size:
After checking the microSD it turned out it works well, so I consider this as buying a microSD in a very expensive housing 😀
I think I can still use the usbC port and the nice micro led’s for some project.
Also I will make a detailed overview of how did they fake the size.
